However, if you do not have a railing to clamp onto, or if your anchoring space is limited, a flat hook may not be the best choice for your needs.

Ratchet usage guidelines and safety information
According to the WSTDA, when using a web tie-down with a winch or ratchet, a minimum of two and a maximum of four wraps of webbing should be wound on the winch or ratchet lever. Excessive wraps of webbing on the mandrel may reduce the working load limit (WLL) of the web tie-down and may interfere with proper operation. In addition, the design factor, which is the ratio of break strength to operating load limit, should be 3:1 for these tie-down straps to ensure safety and redundancy.
